Product design: From idea to product to recycling.

Design process

Every beat bolli FORM product goes through the same structured process—from the initial idea to the finished product on the shelf.

It all starts with an observation: What problem needs to be solved, what function is missing, what form hasn’t been considered yet? The initial idea is refined through abstraction. The superfluous is eliminated. What remains is the essence.

The next step involves selecting colors and defining materials. Choosing PLA as a bioplastic is not a compromise, but a deliberate choice: it can be processed locally, is biodegradable, and allows for precise printing. Aesthetic appeal and manufacturability are considered simultaneously, not sequentially.

Based on this, a 3D CAD model is created. Renderings make proportions, surfaces, and colors visible before a single gram of material is used. At the same time, initial considerations regarding recycling are incorporated. Sustainability is not an afterthought at the end of the process, but a requirement from the very beginning.

The first physical prototype is created using 3D printing. It is tested in real-world conditions. Its strengths are confirmed, and its weaknesses are identified. These findings are incorporated into the next iteration. This process is repeated until the product is just right.

Once the final design is complete, the product description and packaging concept will follow. The packaging will also be assessed for sustainability.

The result: a product that works, lasts, and doesn't have any unnecessary features.
