How is a product created? The design process of beat bolli FORM

From the initial idea to the finished object – and back to the raw material.

Behind every beat bolli FORM product lies a well-thought-out, structured process. Nothing is left to chance. Simplicity is intentional. This article offers a glimpse into the journey a product takes from the initial idea to its finished form.

1. The idea

It all begins with an observation. A problem in everyday life, an unmet need, a formal impulse. The idea is the starting point – raw, unfinished, but with a clear core.

2. Abstraction and Reduction

The initial idea is further developed through abstraction. What is truly necessary? What can be omitted? In this step, the essential functions and forms are identified. Everything superfluous is eliminated.

This principle runs through the entire process: Less, but better.

3. Color and material

The material is defined in parallel with the form. With beat bolli FORM, the decision is deliberate: PLA, a bioplastic without petroleum content. Lightweight, precisely processable, and with a clear ecological approach.

The color scheme follows the same minimalism: black, white, muted tones. Colors that don't compete, but complement each other.

4. CAD model and 3D rendering

Based on the abstraction, a precise CAD 3D model is created. Here, the product is technically defined: dimensions, wall thicknesses, tolerances, connections.

Renderings visualize the design realistically – proportions, surfaces and colors are checked before a single print is started.

5. A commitment to sustainability from the very beginning

Recycling is not an afterthought. Questions are already being asked during the design phase: How can the product be returned to the cycle at the end of its life cycle? How can material waste be minimized in the production process?

6. Prototype and 3D printing

The CAD model is manufactured as a prototype using 3D printing. This step is crucial: the object leaves the screen and becomes tangible.

The prototype is being tested in real-world conditions. How does it feel in the hand? Does the design work? Where is there potential for improvement?

7th iteration

Hardly any product is finished on the first try. The insights gained from testing are incorporated into targeted optimization. Form, function, detail – everything is questioned and improved.

This cycle of prototyping, testing, and adjustment can go through several rounds until the result is satisfactory.

8. Product description

Once the final draft is complete, a precise product description is produced. It explains the product’s function, benefits, and unique features—honestly and without exaggeration.

9. Packaging

The final element in the process is the packaging. It protects and presents the product. Here too, the principle is: as little as necessary, as thoughtfully designed as possible. Sustainable materials, clean design.

Made in Switzerland

All beat bolli FORM products are manufactured in Switzerland using 3D printing. Short supply chains, local production, full control over quality and process.

This approach is not a marketing promise, but a design philosophy.
